Rucksack
30 Litre rucksack would be the recommended size

Warm Hat
At the summit of Ben Nevis the temperature is around ten degrees colder than sea level so don't forgot to pack your warm hat.

Hiking Boots
With a good tread on the sole

Wicking Baselayer
Good base layers are made from synthetic and wool ect. Avoid cotton, which takes too long to dry and pulls heat away from the body, which will leave you cold and uncomfortable.

Hiking Trousers
Lightweight, fast drying trousers are brilliant for a day on the hill.

Mid Layer
A fleece or an insulated jacket. Fleeces are available in different thicknesses and are quick-drying and breathable, providing warmth by holding the heat and expelling moisture.

Waterproof jacket
Scottish rain makes light work of "Water resistant" jackets.

Waterproof over trousers

Gloves
Ideally two pairs, one waterproof pair.

Walking Poles
Throughout a day of hiking poles can take three tonnes off your knees. Especially in decent when impact is higher on the knee joints

a small personal first aid kit with plasters, blister treatments and any personal medicine you require i.e. inhalers
